Los Angeles based Creative Director Mike Pasley, a UNI alum, will be on campus next week for two wildly creative events that you won’t want to miss.
Two Awesome Events Over Two Days
Mike will first give a talk called “How to Wear Hats; A-No-Bulls#!%-Guide-To-Multi-Hyphenating-Yourself” on Monday, September 26th at 8 p.m. in KAM 111, the art auditorium of the Kamerick Art Building. He will discuss “the pros and cons of being a jack-of-all-trades, how to present yourself in the entertainment industry, leverage your strengths, and collaborate.”
On Tuesday, Sept. 27th, Mike will lead an open workshop in the Rod Library Digital Media Hub from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. called “Being Midwest AF in LA”. This workshop is meant to help anyone creative who is thinking about working in the entertainment industry. Mike will show you how to make your midwestern values work for you while offering portfolio guidance, career advice, and creative strategies.
Who is Mike Pasley?
Mike is currently Creative Director at the successful animation studio Digital Twigs in L.A. Take a glimpse at their latest show reel below!
Mike graduated from UNI with a BA in Photography in 2003, returning for a couple of semesters to study electronic media. Afterwards, Mike decided to focus his career on writing and directing for film. His directorial debut came in 2007 with the documentary FRAG which premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival and screened at festivals around the world including Berlin and Cannes.
In 2009, Pasley transplanted to Los Angeles where he worked in a variety of roles including editing, directing, producing, writing, visual effects, camera operation, audio mixing, and production design. In 2012, he began collaborating with Motion Designer and long time friend Ryan Wehner as Digital Twigs. The duo developed their own style of practical animation, which combined visual effects, live action and stop motion. They quickly built a portfolio of short form content, producing commercials and series intros for Neil’s Puppet Dreams, The Mythical Show, and Good Mythical Morning. In 2015 Snapchat financed their series Word of The Day.
Mike is a creative dynamo who isn’t afraid to push boundaries, and we cannot wait to hear from him. If you are a student interested in digital imaging, visualization, interactivity, theater, media production, art, design, project management, marketing, or any creative field, or you want to push your midwest skill sets, you’ll definitely want to attend these events!
These events are free and open to the public. Sponsored by IDS student organization The Digital Collective.
